Benefits of New Lighting

  • Energy efficiency: Modern LED lighting uses far less energy and runs cooler, which helps lower utility costs.
  • Better aesthetics: Layered lighting adds depth and highlights architecture and decor.
  • More functional space: Bright, targeted task lighting improves kitchens, offices, garages, and closets.
  • Comfort and mood: Choose color temperature and dimming to set a calm evening or a focused workday.
  • Safety and security: Well-placed lighting reduces trip hazards indoors and deters intruders outdoors.
  • Higher home value: Updated lighting is a visible upgrade buyers and inspectors notice.

Where Lighting Makes the Biggest Impact

  • Kitchens: Recessed ambient light, pendants over the island, and bright under-cabinet task lighting
  • Living and dining: Dimmable layers for entertaining, TV time, and everyday comfort
  • Bathrooms: Vanity lighting at eye level plus ceiling lights for an even, shadow-free mirror
  • Bedrooms: Quiet, low-glare fixtures and switched bedside lighting
  • Home office: Balanced ambient light with focused task lighting to reduce eye strain
  • Exterior: Entry, path, garage, and landscape lighting for curb appeal and security

Ambient, Task, Accent, Decorative

A complete lighting plan usually blends four types:

  • Ambient for general room light
  • Task for work surfaces and reading areas
  • Accent to draw attention to art, niches, and features
  • Decorative fixtures that make a statement while adding light

Smart Lighting and Dimmers

Control your lights by app, schedule, voice, or wall switch. We install smart dimmers, occupancy sensors, and scenes so you can tap one button for “Movie Night,” “Dinner,” or “All Off.” We also help match dimmers to LED fixtures to avoid flicker and hum.

Design and Budget Considerations

  • Layout and design: We plan fixture locations, spacing, beam spread, and switching so light lands where you need it.
  • Fixture selection: We can install owner-supplied fixtures or provide recommendations that fit your style and budget.
  • Code and safety: Proper wiring, box sizing, support, and GFCI or AFCI protection where required.
  • Future-ready: We consider dimming, smart compatibility, and maintenance from the start.

FAQs

Can you replace my existing can lights with thin LED wafer lights?

Yes. Wafer lights are a great option when recess cans are old, leaky, or not in ideal positions. They install cleanly with minimal patching.

Do I need dimmers with LED lighting?

Dimmers add comfort and extend LED life. We match dimmers to your fixtures to avoid flicker, drop-out, or hum.

What color temperature should I choose?

Warm 2700K to 3000K for living areas and bedrooms, 3000K to 3500K for kitchens and baths, and 4000K for workspaces. We can show samples in your space.

Will you patch and paint if holes are needed?

We minimize cuts whenever possible. We can coordinate patch and paint if the project requires drywall work.

Do I need a larger electrical panel for more lighting?

Usually lighting load is modest, but older homes with limited capacity may benefit from a panel or service upgrade. We will evaluate your system and advise. See our Panel Service Upgrades page.

Can you set up smart lighting with my phone or voice assistant?

Yes. We install compatible smart dimmers and switches and help with app setup, scenes, and schedules.
